There is a good choice of water lilies available at the nursery, except for small types. There are some new additions here at the nursery, available from July, names only at this time under the appropriate section for each one.
Choosing a water lily.
Some customers come to me having seen a picture in a book or on the internet of a water lily they're rather taken by and ask if I have it. If you consider that there are in excess of 1,700 varieties of water lilies and counting, then clearly I wouldn't have all of them. Most people are content with something or other from my selections unless they are a collector or someone needing a specific variety for some other reason. A picture doesn't tell you whether the flower that you see is produced in great abundance or once in a blue moon and this should be a major consideration for the average customer as most people are buying the water lily for it's flowers and would generally like to see as many and often as possible. The Acre Meadow selections of water lilies have a flower power rating refering to flowering performance on a scale of 1-5. That said none of my selections score less than a three,medium rating, as I have already dismissed the shy flowering varieties from my choices. Any variety scoring a three redeems itself via its exquisite blooms thus earning itself a place in the modern water garden. I'm honest about stating sizes of the plants whereas you may find other sites downsizing plants that are going to grow rather large to make a sale only for you, the customer,to find the plant has taken over the pond in no time at all.
Unless choosing from the small-medium category the water lilies should be expected to have a spread, unless kept very shallow, of something in the region of 120 cm or greater without any form of control
